SUSTAINABLE MANUFACTURING

Agenda 2020's Sustainable Manufacturing Task Group addresses new approaches for reducing water and energy demands and emissions of greenhouse gases that will make the industry's production processes more sustainable and efficient.

CURRENT R&D PRIORITIES
    Reduce energy intensity of manufacturing by 25%
    Reduce fresh water intake in mills and plants by 50%

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

> DOE Innovative Manufacturing Initiative award announced June 2012 for development of coatings for membranes to enable use in concentrating weak black liquor replacing first two stages of multiple-effect evaporators.  Project is $2.6 million led by Teledyne Scientific & Imaging with Agenda 2020 as partner.

> Development of concepts for the Technologically Advanced Workforce and the transition of oversight to TAPPI, and establishment of the National Network for Pulp and Paper Technical Training (NPT2)
